New Electron Microscope Installed

Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the leading paediatric hospitals and its Electron Microscopy (EM) unit has an international reputation as a centre of excellence in identifying rare paediatric diseases. The Trust has recently invested in a new transmission electron microscope with a high quality digital imaging system. An ultrastructural service is available for a variety of clinical conditions including renal, neuromuscular, dermatological, neoplastic and gastrointestinal disorders. The department has particular expertise in metabolic disorders and works in close collaboration with colleagues in biochemistry and molecular genetics to provide a comprehensive service including a prenatal diagnostic service using chorionic villous samples.

The EM unit provides a superior quality, rapid turnover technical service for clinical and research applications with an interpretative service for accurate analysis.
