Mycobacterium Abscessus Sub-Speciation
Mycobacterium abscessus is a single species that encompasses
three subspecies (M. abscessus subsp abscessus, M. abscessus,subsp
massiliense and M. abscessus subsp bolletii), each associated with
varying clinical outcomes. Sub-speciation and relatedness of
isolates is performed at GOSH using bacterial whole genome
sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. In addition, we can identity
Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNP's) that can be associated with
high level resistance to Amikacin and Macrolides.
Mycobacterium abscessus sub-speciation is performed on pure
isolates (not primary specimens). Please note that samples are
batch-processed. Due to the varying frequency of requests, batches
are currently processed every 3-4 months. Please contact us if your
request is urgent.
