JC and BK virus PCR

Description

This qualitative PCR assay is a duplex assay for the detection of both polyomaviruses. Renal transplant recipients are regularly screened using this assay for the detection of reactivated latent polyomavirus, which can cause nephropathy (and haemorrhagic cystitis in the case of BK virus). This assay is also used in neurological workups, as JC virus can cause progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, as well as meningitis and meningoencephalitis.
