Pancreatic elastase 1 quantification


Description

This test quantifies pancreatic elastase 1 in stool samples, allowing the diagnosis or exclusion of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, which can be caused by chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer or diabetes mellitus. An ELISA is employed, with the inclusion of a series of standards, allowing the quantification of pancreatic elastase in patient samples. Follow-up of patients with mild or moderate pancreatic insufficiency is therefore possible.
