Streptococcus agalactiae real-time PCR


Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Strep, GBS) is the leading cause of septicaemia and meningitis in the newborn infant, and can result in serious morbidity and mortality. This real-time PCR assay targets the sip gene which codes for a surface antigen protein in Streptococcus agalactiae. The GBS-sip PCR is multiplexed with an internal control PCR to detect Streptococcus agalactiae DNA in clinical material whilst controlling both the extraction and amplification procedures.
